New URL for My Blog

On December 18, 2014, I moved my blog from TechGalaxy.net to ZubairAlexander.com domain. There were several reasons for the move, but the main reason was to make it easier for people to find my blog. People, especially my students, don’t have to remember the domain name, all they need to know is my name. There was also some confusion around the top level domain type (.net instead of .com). People often would use .net and end up on a different site. Now it is as simple as Googling , Binging, or Yahooing my name to find my blog.

UPDATE: May 29, 2017

So why did I move my blog this time? Well, I own several Web sites and except for one site that has no content and is used strictly for testing, they are all protected with SSL certificates. In order to consolidate my SSL certificates, I have to rearrange some of my sites and therefore update the URLs. As you may know, Google and other search engines give preference to sites that are protected with SSL. As of May 29, 2017, the new URL for my blog is https://www.zubairalexander.com/blog. The old site is redirected to the new URL at this time so you should not receive any 404 errors if you clicked on one of the cached URLs. I am discouraging search engines to index my old blog and expect the cached entries to drop out in about 10-15 days. Other than the URL change, you shouldn’t really notice anything different. Please let me know if you find anything unusual that requires my attention. Thanks.

A few additional things to note:

  • Although I am redirecting the old URL to the new one, please update your favorites/bookmarks in your browser.
  • If you subscribe to the RSS feed for my blog, don’t forget to update the RSS feed URL. The new URL is https://www.zubairalexander.com/blog/feed.
  • I have moved my blog to a newer and faster server so you may notice an improvement in the performance.
  • Search has also been enhanced to give you a better user experience.
  • Because my site is responsive, I am no longer using thumbnails for the majority of my images. This means that you should be able to view the images easily without the necessity to click on each image and view a larger version of it.
  • My blog is mobile-friendly so you should find it easy to quickly navigate around the site on your mobile device.

Please let me know if you find anything unusual that needs my attention. As always, I appreciate you visiting my blog.
