Microsoft Certified Trainer

Just like the government agencies, utility companies, and most organizations, Microsoft is helping out its partners and customers in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19). Microsoft has announced that it’s waiving the annual $800 Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) membership fee effective immediately through September 30, 2020.

This is great news for the MCTs. I just renewed my MCT certification for the 25th year in a row. Microsoft’s support to the MCT community around the world and this response to the COVID-19 pandemic is appreciated. If it weren’t for Microsoft’s kind gesture, there are many MCTs who would not have been able to renew their MCT status this year, especially in the countries that have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Microsoft has waived the $800 MCT program fee until September 30, 2020. If you’ve already paid the fee to renew your MCT status on or after February 1, 2020, you can get a refund until May 31, 2020 by filling out this request form.

How to Get the Discount

If you are planning to renew your MCT status, first make sure that you meet the MCT requirements and then renew your MCT status through the MCT Enrollment tool as usual. When you will get to the payment section, you will notice that the program fee is crossed out and a 100% discount for Microsoft Learning 2020 is applied, which brings the total down to $0.00.

It usually takes 24-48 hours to get your welcome email from Microsoft, but I received an email in less than 24 hours after I submitted the application…..and that was on a weekend.

How to Get a Refund

As of March 30, 2020, MCTs were still paying the MCT renewal fees. Therefore, this announcement must have been made within the last two weeks. If you’ve paid the MCT program fee on or after February 1, 2020, you are qualified to get a refund by using this request form. Once your refund is processed, Microsoft will send you a confirmation email. If you don’t receive a confirmation email within 15 business days, you should contact MCT Support.

To be eligible for a refund, the MCT program fee must have been paid on or after February 1, 2020.  The deadline for requesting a refund is May 31, 2020.

Keep the following things in mind when submitting a request for a refund. These are listed on the MCT request form.

  1. To be eligible for a refund, fees must have been paid on or after February 1, 2020.
  2. Upon approval, your refund will be issued to the original payment method in the amount paid.
  3. Refunds should be processed within 15 business days.

When you submit the request, you won’t receive a reply. You will, however, receive a confirmation email once your refund has been processed.

Keep an eye on MCT Central for updates and any potential changes to the MCT program and stay safe. For Microsoft’s official announcement, visit Microsoft COVID-19 Response Update: MCT Program Fees Waived. You will be required to log in with your MCT credentials to read the announcement.
