I have encountered this in an Exchange Server 2013 environment and Microsoft Outlook 2013 running on Windows 8.1 \u00a0plus Outlook 2016 running on Windows 10 Enterprise. You may also encounter this error in other versions. Suddenly you get the error that your server doesn&#8217;t support the type of encryption that you are currently using.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-style: italic; color: #000000;\">Task &#8216;UserAcctName &#8211; Receiving&#8217; reported error *(0x800CCC1A): &#8216;Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified. Try changing the encryption method. Contact your email server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for additional assistance.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6222\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zubairalexander.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/encryption-method-not-supported-1.png\" alt=\"Outlook Error 0x800CCC1A\" width=\"427\" height=\"71\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zubairalexander.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/encryption-method-not-supported-1.png 427w, https:\/\/www.zubairalexander.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/encryption-method-not-supported-1-300x50.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Where UserAcctName is the account description that you have given to the POP3 account in Microsoft Outlook 2013\/2016. This is not the email address, this is the description that you used on the General tab of the Internet E-mail Settings tab when you configured the POP3 account. For example, if you used the description &#8220;Gmail account for junkmail&#8221; then that&#8217;s what you will see in the above error. The error also indicates that the error was during the Receiving process.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #000000;\">SOLUTION<\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">While there may be other solutions to this problem, one reason that you may receive this error could be that your PopProxy state is somehow set to inactive. This can happen even if you have been using your POP3 accounts in Outlook just fine. You can verify this by using the following command at the Exchange Management Shell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #000000;\">Get-ServerComponentstate -Identity Exchange2013<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Where <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Exchange2013<\/span> is the name of your Exchange server. Notice in the screenshot below that the state of PopProxy is set to <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Inactive<\/span>, which is the likely cause of you getting the POP3 error in Outlook.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zubairalexander.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/encryption-method-not-supported-2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-6220\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zubairalexander.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/encryption-method-not-supported-2-300x181.png\" alt=\"Outlook Error 0x800CCC1A\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zubairalexander.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/encryption-method-not-supported-2-300x181.png 300w, https:\/\/www.zubairalexander.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/encryption-method-not-supported-2-768x462.png 768w, https:\/\/www.zubairalexander.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/encryption-method-not-supported-2.png 907w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">You can make PopProxy active by using the following command:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #000000;\">Set-ServerComponentState -Identity Exchange2013 -Component PopProxy -Requester HealthAPI -State Active<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Where <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Exchange2013<\/span> is the name of your Exchange server.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After you run the above command, verify that the change has taken place and that the state of PopProxy is now Active.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #000000;\">Get-ServerComponentstate -Identity Exchange2013<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zubairalexander.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/encryption-method-not-supported-3.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-6221\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zubairalexander.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/encryption-method-not-supported-3-300x159.png\" alt=\"Outlook Error 0x800CCC1A\" width=\"300\" height=\"159\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zubairalexander.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/encryption-method-not-supported-3-300x159.png 300w, https:\/\/www.zubairalexander.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/encryption-method-not-supported-3-768x407.png 768w, https:\/\/www.zubairalexander.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/encryption-method-not-supported-3-1024x542.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.zubairalexander.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/encryption-method-not-supported-3.png 1229w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After you make the above change, simply go back to Outlook 2013\/2016 and do a Send\/Receive. There is no need to reboot the Exchange Serer 2013 or restart Outlook. I did a Google search and this blog post came up #5 in the search. I went straight to the Exchange Management Shell, typed the commands in my article and was able to fix the error. I didn&#8217;t remember this article I wrote over a year ago but it&#8217;s nice to know that my articles are helpful not just to the readers but also to me :-).
