Ever since I installed my Windows Server 2003 on 64-bit hardware,\u00a0 I have been looking for a 64-bit driver for my Dell 1600n network Multi-Function Printer. For some reason Dell doesn’t offer drivers for 64-bit Windows Server 2003. I finally discovered this trick that got my Dell 1600n printer working on my 64-bit Windows Server 2003.<\/p>\n

1. Go to Printer and Faxes.<\/p>\n

2. Double-click Add Printer.<\/p>\n

3. Select Local printer attached to this printer and click Next.<\/p>\n

4. Create a new port. For type of port select Standard TCP\/IP Port from the drop-down button.<\/p>\n

5. Go\u00a0 through the wizard to create a TCP\/IP printer.<\/p>\n

6. Provide the IP address of the Dell 1600n network printer.<\/p>\n

7. Select the Generic Network Card under Device type.<\/p>\n

8. Once you have created the port, run the Add Printer wizard again and in step 4 instead of creating a new port click “Use the following port.”<\/p>\n

9. Select the IP port that you’ve created (Standard TCP\/IP Port) and click Next.<\/p>\n

10. For the manufacturer select HP and for the printer select HP LaserJet 4000 Series PCL<\/strong><\/span>. For Postscript driver use HP LaserJet 4000 Series PS<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

11. Finish installing the driver.<\/p>\n

12. Delete the file DP1600n.PPD on the x64 system located in %WINDIR%\\system32\\spool\\drivers\\x64\\3 folder.<\/p>\n

13. Copy the Dell ADIST5.PPD file from a 32-bit system (e.g. Windows XP) that is located in %WINDIR%\\system32\\spool\\drivers\\w32x86\\3 to the x64 system in %WINDIR%\\system32\\spool\\drivers\\x64\\3 folder.<\/p>\n

You should be able to now print on your Dell 1600n network printer. If you have any problems, make sure that you have deleted or at least renamed the old DP1600n.PPD file on 64-bit system. Also, you might want to restart the print spooler service.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
